01 About project
Alongside the public discovery site, the National Maritime Museum needed a home for its full collection — a searchable catalogue of every object in its holdings. We designed and built a digital library where each artefact, from a recovered bottle to a reconstructed bowl, has its own page with specifications, photographs and reconstructions. It gives the museum one consistent system to document, organise and share its collection online.
02 Challenges
A museum collection is thousands of objects, each with its own measurements, materials, origin and condition. The challenge was to present that depth of data in a single, consistent template that stays clear whether an object has two attributes or twenty.
The catalogue had to serve both visitors browsing out of curiosity and staff who depend on accurate records — which meant a structure that handles detailed specifications, multiple images and reconstructions without ever feeling cluttered.
03 Solutions
We designed a clean, repeatable object template — a specification table, a gallery of photographs and reconstructions, and a clear title and summary — consistent across every item in the collection.
Light, neutral surfaces keep the focus on the objects and their data. Built to scale, the same layout works for any artefact, so the museum can keep adding to the catalogue without redesigning a single page.
